I'm On A Boat

God has called you to build His church. He has put the right ingredients inside of you, but we keep relying on our pastors, when in reality, it's in you!

Genesis 6: 5-8 NIV

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Genesis 6: 14-16 NIV(description of the ark)

So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit  high all around. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks.

• Noah did all that the Lord commanded.

This world is genially drowning. Your friends are drowning and it's not cliche. Your friends; they may look like they have it together, but they are desperately in need of saving. Though the world is drowning, there IS a great Rescuer and what He uses to hand down to people that are drowning – which is the skimming stick of God – is the church.

It is the church that God throws out to a drowning generation. The church is His plan A – and YOU are the church.

Jesus Christ has decided to use you to save your friends, and you are waiting on something else. Well, Jesus is waiting on you!

• Sometimes you are waiting for your pastor to save your friend, and your pastor doesn't even know your friend or their name. Jesus is sitting there saying, "Save 'em!" And we are saying, "God, would you please do something for this person?" And Jesus replies, "I already did, I put you in their lives."

They are drowning and you are the lifeguard. Jesus is extending them in your direction.

Noah was told to build an ark. • Some people think that the church is a new idea, some think it's a cult. Well, the church has been around for thousands of years. • For the very first time we see a foreshadowing of the church; God chooses an ark to save humanity itself the same way He has chosen the church to save our generation.

Jesus said that the "end of times" generation would be like the generation of Noah – totally wicked – that every intention in the heart of man would be wicked. Jesus said it would only get worse and worse. BUT! Have hope, because we have a Redeemer, and there is a great ark at work in the world right now, and that is the church.

The church is the skimming stick of God. He chose to put it down to rescue this drowning world.

The calling on your church is so great, so vast, so mighty — don't just look at what you have now, but what has God called you to be.. now that is what you truly are.

God looked down at the generation of Noah and His heart broke.

C.S. Lewis —

“There are only two kinds of people in the end: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, in the end, "Thy will be done." All that are in Hell, choose it. Without that self-choice there could be no Hell. No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. Those who knock it is opened. ”

• And that's exactly what God did. Seeing that the people were going to destroy themselves, He chose to at least rescue some of them. He's going to at least save humanity.

Humanity cannot save itself, but God has a plan and it's called the church.

The moment sin entered into mankind, the plan of redemption was kicked into motion by Jesus Christ. God kicked off His plan.

• The picture of Noah building the boat is the picture of you and me building the church.

You are standing in an unbroken line that extends all the way back to Jesus – Jesus built His church. Jesus died so that the church could happen. And on that line, next to Jesus stands Peter. Next to Peter, Paul. Next to Paul, stands Polycarp. Next to Polycarp stands Ignatius. Next is Augustine, then Luther, Spourgen, your pastor than you. There is an unbroken line from you to Jesus Christ himself.

All books in the bible have a closing. They all have an ending. BUT! If you take a look at Acts, it is different. In a sense every other book ends with a period, but not Acts. Why? Because we are still in Acts. It is continuing on. The church is still happening, the church is still mighty, it is still rescuing.

We are continuing the great work of Abraham and Noah and everyone else. God thought about all this. You are not plan B. You are not here by accident.

Jesus promised to build His church. He didn't promise to build anything else. He will tell you exactly what to do next. How can it fail, if Jesus does not fail. He will do it through you.

We are not called to be a little group, a little clique. We are called to be the church of Jesus Christ.

Not only are you part of something great, you are something great. And you may say it's not that great right now, well Jesus is waiting on you. He waits for you to change the world. Do all that God has commanded you to do.

We need a generation that doesn't just attend a church, because we were called to build the church. Be like Isaac, lay your life at the altar and do anything for Him.

God's plan is very resilient. Whatever happened in the past, is in the past. You are called to be a leader, a worshiper.. Live the calling of your life.

NOTICE: The boat is big.

• God always goes big. He's too big to go small. • The church should be big — and I do mean numerically. • Numbers do matter; there even is a book in the bible dedicated to it. • The boat was big; the church should be big. • Fit as many people as possible to get the message to as many people as possible.

[Jordan Boyce talks about a famous scene in the movie "Jaws" where they finally see the shark. The captain backs up from the water and says, "We are going to need a bigger boat."]

The church should have a massive impact on culture.

Luke 19:13 NIV

So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’

OCCUPY UNTIL I COME BACK. • Jesus tells us to occupy — "Take over until I come back."

We have a higher calling. All things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial. I can do all things, but there are things I choose not to. So I can help those stuck in that.

Choose today to serve God above all else.

Finally the culture have been seeing Christians that have conviction. When people see conviction in you, they are going to respond.

DAYS OF NOAH 1. The boat being built 2. Everything else

NOWADAYS 1. The church being built 2. Everything else

• Only one thing matters, everything else does not. • Your music, your relationships, all the influences of culture fall into "everything else"

You need to be a legit Christian. You need to stand your ground. We need something other than weak Christians.

It's time to put your focus into the church. Your energy, your creativity, all you've got into the church. You only have one shot at this. The bible says your life is like a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow.

We've got one shot at this.

The church should be an overwhelming experience. We should have fun at church. The church should be big — and only YOU can make it that way.
